Papua New Guinea (PNG) shares the island of Papua with Indonesia’s Irian Jaya but has a distinct colonial history and coffee culture. PNG’s coffee industry is unique and unrelated to its Indonesian neighbours. Unlike Indonesia’s common wet-hull processing, PNG coffees are wet-processed, resulting in different flavour profiles. PNG’s coffee, produced by diverse ethnic groups with no ties to Indonesia’s cultures, stands out with flavours that are cleaner and less earthy than typical Indonesian coffees.
