Uganda
Uganda is East Africa’s largest coffee exporter, producing over 6 million bags annually, with plans to triple output. As the birthplace of robusta coffee (caffea canephora), robusta still makes up 80% of Uganda’s trade. However, the country’s arabicas, grown in mountainous regions, are gaining recognition for their sweetness, creamy texture, and high-quality natural processing, comparable to Burundi or Ethiopia. Despite being produced by historically underserved smallholders, these coffees are increasingly traceable and certified, though they’ve yet to receive major accolades like the Good Food Awards.
