Sumatra
Sumatra, one of Indonesia’s key coffee-growing islands, is renowned for producing rich, full-bodied coffee with earthy, herbal, and sometimes spicy notes. Much of Sumatra’s coffee is grown by smallholders and processed using the traditional wet-hull method, or Giling Basah, which imparts its unique, low-acid profile and adds to the signature rustic flavours. Regions like Aceh and Lintong are especially famous, with farms typically situated at high elevations, where older Arabica varieties thrive. Sumatran coffee’s distinct, complex taste has made it highly prized worldwide, particularly among those who enjoy deep, robust, and uniquely Indonesian flavour profiles.
