Burundi Kayanza Incuti - Washed
Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, founder of JNP Coffee, is a key figure in Burundi’s coffee industry. Born in Bujumbura and armed with an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School, she reconnected with her homeland by founding Burundi Friends International, a nonprofit that supports rural education and empowerment. After marketing Burundi coffees, she launched JNP Coffee, focusing on women’s empowerment and co-founding Burundi's chapter of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA). With over 2,000 members, IWCA coffees are marketed for their traceability and social impact, providing end-of-year premiums to farmers. JNP Coffee’s “Dushime” program expands this impact by offering quality consulting and marketing support to local farmers, including those in Kayanza Province. Their coffee, Incuti (Kirundi for “friend”), comes from two distinct lots.

Processing Method
The Incuti group’s fully washed processing is meticulously detailed, following the best practices in Burundi. Cherries are first floated to remove defects, then depulped and fermented. Wet parchment is further sorted by density in washing channels. Drying begins under shade, then continues in open air, where parchment is shaped into pyramids and adjusted daily to ensure even drying. This careful process results in a juicy, lime-like profile, characteristic of high-elevation Kayanza coffee.
