Costa Rica Finca Amistad - Organic
Hacienda La Amistad, nestled in Coto Brus, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, is proudly owned and operated by Roberto Montero, a third-generation coffee farmer. Roberto’s grandfather first arrived in the area in the early 1900s as part of a surveying team for the border between Costa Rica and the newly established Panama. He later acquired over 10,000 hectares of land and began cultivating coffee. Remarkably, Roberto's family has returned more than 6,000 hectares to the Costa Rican government for the preservation of La Amistad International Park, the largest natural reserve in Central America. Today, only 300 hectares are used for coffee production, while the remaining 4,000 hectares flourish as wildlife-rich forests.
Processing Method
Roberto’s dedication to organic farming beautifully aligns with his commitment to the community. During the coffee harvest, he provides housing and free medical care to seasonal workers, many of whom are indigenous families from Panama. Additionally, Roberto proudly offers over 100 full-time jobs to locals from Las Mellizas, both in coffee cultivation and his year-round dried fruit operation. Each year, he hosts a celebration to honour his employees' hard work and ensures that their children receive school supplies before the new school year begins.

Roast Recommendation
Roasting this coffee super dark would be a missed opportunity, as it would dull the sweetness and brighter flavors, though it would still be tasty. Skip the cinnamon and light roasts—they can result in an unbalanced cup that leans heavily on acidity and floral notes. Instead, it really shines in the City+ to Full City range. If you prefer a hint of acidity, a City or City+ roast (on the lighter side of medium) will be just right. For those who like lower acidity and a fuller body, aim for just before the second crack for a strong medium roast.
