Kenya Nyeri Othaya Mahiga AB

  • Fair Trade

Mt. Kenya, Africas second-highest peak, sits at the heart of Kenyas Central Province, where the mineral-rich soils and high elevations produce some of the worlds best coffees. Nyeri County is particularly famous for its coffee, cultivated by small farmers within cooperative systems. The Mahiga Factory, part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, includes 400 members who collectively produced 152,000 kgs of parchment coffee last harvest. Mahiga's farmers receive 55 shillings per kilogram of cherries delivered, benefiting from the Kenya Cooperative Coffee Exporters (KCCE) initiative, which helps cooperatives capture more of the export value chain and boost farmer income.
